Cesari Valpolicella Classico Anfora: when the land shapes the future of wine

Valpolicella Classico “Anfora” 2024 made its debute at Vinitaly 2026: a bold step toward a future that looks back at the roots of viticultural civilization. This represents a new expression of Cesari’s contemporary vision of the territory.
This is not merely a limited edition of our Valpolicella Classico, but a return to origins executed with the precision of modern oenology: a wine born from the earth, shaped through amphora ageing, and brought to the glass with the elegance of a heritage that continually renews itself.
At Cesari, we view the use of amphorae today as a deeply contemporary choice: a gesture of winemaking precision that allows the wine to express itself without filters, providing a clear, pure, and extraordinarily honest image of our land.
The Amphora: a dialogue between matter and wine
While vinification in terracotta finds its roots in antiquity, its application today is synonymous with cutting-edge technical research. Unlike wood, which imparts tertiary aromas, the amphora acts as a neutral guardian.
The benefits of this natural material are manifold and fundamental to our vision of Contemporary Soul:
- Absolute Neutrality: Terracotta does not release exogenous scents, allowing the varietal profile of the Valpolicella to emerge in its total authenticity.
- Natural Micro-oxygenation: The porosity of the ceramic promotes a slow and constant evolution, similar to that of wood but without the aromatic impact of toasting.
- Thermal Stability and Harmony: The nature of the material ensures harmonious fermentation and refinement, granting the palate a stability and cleanliness comparable to stainless steel, but with superior depth.

From experimentation to success: the “Amphora” project
The Valpolicella Classico DOC 2024 Anfora is a project aimed at discovering how the amphora can interpret the terroir in a new way, enhancing the purity of the wine. In this version, the wine spends approximately 5 months in amphora. This duration varies based on the vintage, during which micro-oxygenation refines the tannic structure, making it silky and vibrant, and elevating the aromatic finesse of the red fruit typical of our hills.
1936: a number that represents heritage
The choice to produce this limited edition of only 1,936 numbered bottles is not accidental. 1936 is the year it all began: the founding date of the Cesari winery.
Each bottle of Valpolicella Anfora is therefore a tribute to that original vision, a bridge stretched between the land of our origins and the future we are designing. It is a wine that celebrates our history through a current, precise, and elegant language.
In the glass: the difference between steel and amphora
To fully grasp the value of this vinification, it is useful to compare the traditional stainless steel approach with terracotta. While wine aged in steel shines for its sharpness and more rigid, linear primary aromas, Valpolicella Classico Anfora reveals a multifaceted complexity. The tannins are softer and rounder, the color maintains intense depth, and the olfactory profile opens into more authentic and natural notes. It is a form of naked authenticity: the wine finds the space to reveal its deepest identity without external interference.
An experience for collectors
Each bottle of Valpolicella Classico Anfora, distinguished by its progressive number, tells a part of our research journey.
Choosing one of these 1,936 bottles means approaching an essential and direct interpretation of Valpolicella, where natural balance and purity of fruit are the true protagonists. It is an invitation to discover how history can renew itself, sip after sip, in the complicit silence of the clay.
