Collecting Amarone della Valpolicella: The Value of Time in Caveau Bosan

Discover the art of collecting Amarone della Valpolicella. Explore aged vintages and book the exclusive Bosan Experience at the Cesari winery in Fumane.
What makes a bottle of wine a true prize for collectors worldwide? It isnโt just the name on the label, nor the high scores from international critics. It is its capacity to defy the decadesโevolving beautifully year after year to reveal unexpected layers of depth while safeguarding the living memory of a specific vintage.
At Cesari, this philosophy finds its ultimate home at our Fumane winery, deep within the Caveau Bosan.
Wine Aging: What Happens to Amarone After 10, 20, or 30 Years?
The ageing potential of Amarone isnโt just about cellaring; it is a dynamic evolution that begins in our production cellars, continues in the bottle, and matures gracefully in the private collections of wine lovers. Over time, the structural tannins soften, becoming silky and velvety, while the wine’s color shifts towards warm, deep garnet hues.
On the nose, the transformation is spellbinding. Vibrant primary fruit notes give way to complex tertiary aromas that define the wineโs profound characterโthink black truffle, licorice, dark chocolate, tobacco, and sweet spices. These multi-dimensional layers revealed by the passage of time make collecting Amarone della Valpolicella an emotional and cultural investment far before an economic one.
Yet, not all red wines are destined for long cellaring. The world’s finest age-worthy reds possess a precise natural balance: driving acidity, a dense polyphenolic backbone, high dry extract, and a generous alcohol content. Together, these elements prepare the wine for its remarkable journey through the years.
The Historic Vintages of Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Bosan
Ever since 1997, we at Cesari have believed in the extraordinary potential of the Bosan vineyard, located near the village of Marano di Valpolicellaโone of the most prestigious areas of the Classico zone. This historic single vineyard features terraced, pergola-trained vines rooted in volcanic-calcareous soils, enjoying the perfect exposure for cultivating Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes.
The crown jewel of this micro-terroir is undoubtedly Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva Bosan. This award-winning cru thrives on Maranoโs cool, breezy microclimate, which preserves the essential acidity needed for the longevity of our historic Amarone vintages.
To honor the legacy of this vineyard and its unique relationship with time, we established the Caveau Bosan in 2024. This dedicated cellar room within our Fumane winery (just a short drive from Verona) safeguards an exclusive historic library of over 10.000 bottles, spanning from the debut 1997 vintage to the recent 2015 and 2016 releases. Beyond protecting our most precious bottles as they mature, this private space welcomes guests for truly memorable tasting experiences.
