Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG “Il Bosco” 2021

Amarone “Il Bosco” is crafted from selected grapes grown in the hillside vineyards of the Valpolicella Classica area. The alluvial soils, rich in clay and sand, lend balance and depth. A powerful and complex Amarone, forged by time and the strong character of its terroir.

Il Bosco Amarone 2021 was shaped by a balanced winter with abundant rainfall, followed by a cool spring and an August marked by significant day-to-night temperature variation, conditions that encouraged slow, even ripening of the grapes. In the glass, it displays a deep ruby-red colour with garnet reflections, while the nose reveals notes of ripe cherry, fruit preserve, cocoa and sweet spice. The palate is warm, generous and full-bodied, combining structure with elegance and leading to a long, harmonious and refined finish.

climate trend

Winter brought temperatures in line with the seasonal average and abundant rainfall, ensuring a good water reserve. Despite below-average temperatures at the national level in spring, the vine’s phenological stages progressed smoothly. In August, marked temperature swings between day and night, balanced by adequate humidity, created ideal conditions for optimal ripening in the final weeks before harvest.

vinification & maturation

Selected grapes are placed in small crates and dried in a spacious, well-ventilated room in our winery known as ‘fruttaio’ until December. During this period, the grapes lose about 30% of their weight and their sugar content rises, which is essential for the subsequent fermentation process (which follows an 8-day cold maceration at 6°C). The wine then undergoes a maturation phase lasting three years, including 24 months of aging in oak barrels and an additional 6 to 8 months of bottle aging.

tasting notes

The 2021 vintage has produced a rich and expressive Amarone, characterized by enveloping aromas. Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2021 shows an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, classic notes of ripe fruit, cherry, and jam emerge, accompanied by hints of cocoa and sweet spices. On the palate, it is elegant, warm, and full-bodied, with a long and surprisingly refined finish.
